Welcome on board!

The MC Fanfic Awards 2004 is a brand new fic contest dedicated and meant for writing members of the immensely popular Mellon Chronicles mailing list.

 The Mellon Chronicles - created by Cassia and Siobhan - have existed for many years now and are quite popular in the world of fanfiction. So popular, that many authors have chosen to borrow the world of friendship between Aragorn and Legolas as a basis for their own stories. Stories including our favorite Elf and Ranger, but also the Elven-families of Mirkwood and Rivendell, and Fellowship-Friends. 

There are many wonderful authors out there and many very good stories that we felt needed rewarding.

Therefore, as of 2004, the MC Fanfic Awards have been brought to life.

The Concept

We have come up with a list of categories in several "genres" (comedy, angst, drama, ...)

For each category, you can nominate as many stories as you like. You: the writer, or you: the reader.

Self-nomination is welcomed! (And do not be ashamed of it!)

For each category, we have 3 winners. Each entered story receives a nomination banner.

Why?

Well, why not?

The MC is one of the biggest groups of readers and writers in the Lord of the Rings community. Isn't it about time that we have our own special awards then?

We want to give every author out there a chance of participating, of being nominated for several categories and of winning. But it isn't really all about winning: It is about being part of a group of writers who have done their best to entertain the readers over the past years with funny, dramatic, angsty, horror stories. We want to take this opportunity to highlight the efforts of those writers. You, as a reader, will have your say in it! And, get the chance to reread some classics. :)

The MC Fanfic Awards 2004 is not just *a* fanfic contest! We are not just looking for the best story, the best author, the best ....

Even though, of course, it remains a competition, but a fun one at that and one that lives in the spirit of The Mellon Chronicles.

Our extraordinary categories will bring a smile to your face. :)

You, as a writer or reader, decides who will participate in this contest. You can send in your own stories for nomination. Be not ashamed of doing so! After all, it is you who knows best if your stories fit any or all categories. You can send in as many stories as you like. However, readers can also enter your stories for you. In that case, we will check with the writer to see if he/she is willing to participate.

We accept only stories from the authors who are on the MC member list!

This contest is intended for MC only. If you want to nominate a story of an author not on our member list, it will not be accepted.

Not allowed in this contest:

Unfinished stories, NC-17's, Slash and Mary Sue's.

Keep in mind that all the stories must be in the spirit of the Mellon Chronicles.

For this year's contest, there is no time frame for the stories written. You can nominate older and recent stories.

Cassia & Siobhan?

Cassia & Siobhan have decided that they will not participate in the main categories of this fic awards contest, in order to give all the authors equal chances. However, there is a separate category for their stories, where you can offer your support for their work and show them what stories you really, really like!

Start of the nomination round. Send in your stories by email to the following emailaddress only: mcfanficcontest@gmail.com.

Submissions sent to Cassia, Siobhan or Aragornwriter through their regular email will not be accepted. We will announce the list of participating stories when the voting starts on this very website. You will not know up front what stories have been nominated!

November 16, 2004 - December 15, 2004

The  voting starts. We will announce the where's and how's then. All the stories will be featured on this website.

Party-time! For this night alone, the mailing list will be turned into a party-place where everyone can join in with free lembas-bread and water. The Rivendell-band lead by Surfer Legs and Aragorn-Man will bring music and ambiance. Make sure to note this date in your diary! :)
